Abstract: Spontaneous hypertensive rat (SHR) is a genetic model of hypertension rat that is wildly accepted in biomedical research because its characteristic might be shared with idiopathic hypertension in human. National Laboratory Animal Center, Mahidol University has been breeding and selecting this strain (as subline namely SHR/KyoMlac) that kindly donated by Kyoto University, Japan. This study was conducted to evaluate the blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) and growth rate between SHR/KyoMlac (hypertensive) and WMN/NrsMlac (normotensive). The results showed that systolic blood pressure of adult hypertensive rat (130-150 mmHg) was significantly higher than adult normotensive rat (90-120 mmHg.) Contrast to growth rate of hypertensive rat was significantly lower than normotensive rat.
