Coagulation tests were within normal limits. A significant increase in fibrinogen level was observed. The mechanism of thrombocytopenia appeared not to be due to decreased bone marrow platelet production or being platelet destroyed in the process of intravascular coagulation. Thrombocytopenia was negatively correlated with the degree of hepatomegaly which perhaps suggested the role of the liver in the mechanism of thrombocytopenia.
