Their structures were elucidated by spectral methods (high-resolution fast-atom bombardment mass spectrometry (HRFABMS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)). Compound 1 includes a conjugated pentaene moiety together with six hydroxy groups and a carboxylic acid as a side chain.
