The incorporation of the chalcogen atoms, either oxygen or sulfur, in between the anthracene moiety and the alkyl or aryl substituents affected drastically the photo- and electroluminescence properties of the materials, especially the HOMO-LUMO band gap and the emitting color of the devices. The new anthracene sulfide derivatives represent a new design for further modification of other light-emitting doped materials. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd.
