Quenching the RE substituted superconductors, Bi1.55Pb0.45Sr2RE0.2Ca0.8Cu2Oz, is used to lower the hole concentration to the levels where above 90 K superconductivity can be achieved. Lead substitution is used to facilitate the growth of single phase specimens.
