No other carpal or metacarpal injury was involved. The mechanism of injury was volar flexion and ulnar deviation. An attempt at closed treatment failed because the proximal tip of the hamate was incarcerated between the triquetral fragments. Open reduction, K-wire fixation, and casting were done.
