The data of newly diagnosed diabetic patients from 1992 to 1996 were collected by questionaire. The incidence of diabetes mellitus type 1 was 0.52/100,000 population under fifteen years old. There was an increasing trend of this disease over the study period. The peak incidence occurred in the age group 11-15 years.
