ศรัญญา ฉั่วเจริญศิริกฤตยา อกนิษฐ์Saranya ChuacharoensiriKrittaya Akanisdhaมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล. สถาบันวิจัยภาษาและวัฒนธรรมเอเชียมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล. สถาบันวิจัยภาษาและวัฒนธรรมเพื่อพัฒนาชนบท2020-05-072020-05-072563-05-072562วารสารภาษาและวัฒนธรรม. ปีที่ 38, ฉบับที่ 2 (ก.ค.- ธ.ค. 2562), 66-93https://repository.li.mahidol.ac.th/handle/20.500.14594/54756บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการถ่ายทอดความสุภาพในถ้อยคำแสดงความคิดเห็นเป็นบทบรรยายใต้ภาพ โดยใช้กรอบแนวคิด Grand Strategy of Politeness ของลีช (Leech, 2007) และนำกลวิธีการแปลของนิวมาร์ค (Newmark, 1988) มาปรับใช้ ข้อมูลวิจัยมาจากบทสนทนาภาษาอังกฤษของละครชุดทางโทรทัศน์แนวชีวิตแพทย์ เรื่อง Grey’s Anatomy จำนวน 8 ตอน ผลการศึกษาพบการใช้ถ้อยคำแสดงความสุภาพที่เน้นการให้คุณค่ากับความคิดเห็นของผู้ฟังในระดับสูงและความคิดเห็นของผู้พูดในระดับน้อยรวมกันทั้งหมด 773 ถ้อยคำ นอกจากนี้ ยังพบว่ามีการกล่าวทวนถ้อยคำผู้ฟัง ซึ่งจัดเป็นหนึ่งในวิธีการแสดงความสุภาพโดยให้คุณค่ากับผู้ฟังในระดับสูงที่ Leech (2007) ไม่ได้กล่าวถึง ส่วนการถ่ายทอดความหมายด้านความสุภาพ พบการแปลเอาความมากกว่าการแปลตรงตัวสำหรับถ้อยคำแสดงความสุภาพด้านความคิดเห็น กลวิธีหลักที่นักแปลเลือกใช้ในการแปลเอาความ ได้แก่ 1) กลวิธีการแปลโดยอธิบายความ 2) กลวิธีการแปลโดยใช้คำตามวัฒนธรรมของภาษาปลายทาง และ 3) การแปลโดยปรับไวยากรณ์ให้เข้ากับภาษาปลายทาง อีกทั้งพบการละไม่แปลที่สื่อความหมายด้านความสุภาพ โดยผู้ชมสามารถทำความเข้าใจสารด้านความสุภาพผ่านทางอวัจนภาษาที่ปรากฏบนหน้าจอแทนบทบรรยายใต้ภาพได้The purpose of this article is to study the transfer of politeness in opinion utterances in Thai subtitlestranslated from English. The theoretical framework employed in this study includes Grand Strategy of Politeness (Leech, 2007) and translation strategies (Newmark, 1988). The data werecollectedfrom the conversationsin eightepisodes ofthemedical drama television series, Grey’s Anatomy. The findingsrevealed that, as forthe use of polite utterances expressingahigh value towardsthehearer’s opinion anda low value towardsthe speaker’s opinion,there were atotal of 773utterances. Of these, paraphrasing of the hearer’s utterances,classifiedas one of the techniques for polite opinion wasnot mentioned by Leech (2007).With regard totransferring the meaning of politeness, free translation technique was usedmore frequentlythan literal translation toconvey the meaning ofpragmatic politeness in opinion utterances. Majorstrategies of free translation applied by the translator weredescriptive equivalence,cultural equivalence,and shifts.
