The care approach should focus on palliation of their physical symptoms that cause sufferings and on delaying disease progression in order to optimize quality of life for both patients and their families. This article demonstrates the roles of advanced practice nurses in providing palliative care for advanced lung cancer patients since the beginning of their medical care. The principles of palliative care and competencies of advanced practice nurses enacted by Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC) were applied in the care approach to analyze health problems of the patient. Evidence-based nursing care was implemented in the care relying on the disease stage and health deviation self-care.
