The face-down position will make gas float up to press retinal detachment to the original position, or close a leakages to prevent vitreous matter from passing into the subretinal space. Complications such as cataract, high ocular pressure, and re-detachment, could occur if the patient cannot keep the face-down position. This article will present knowledge of treatment by inserting gas in the vitreous cavity for retinal detachment and macular hole, nurses’ role to prepare patients before treatment by inserting gas , and care for patients in the face-down position after treatment by inserting gas, as well as, patients’ experience, and possible problems in maintaining the face-down position.
