Selection of suitable gloves is the most important process in a PPE program. Breakthrough time provided by the manufacturer is the information on which the selection was based. In Thailand, most factories use gloves repeatedly until damage is observed in order to satisfy constraints on operating costs. However, chemicals may permeate the material without any warning signs, and the gloves can not provide protection anymore. Thus, the objective of this study is to find out the permeation performance of the Ansell NeotopTM and Ansell BarrierTM which are repeatedly used in paint container cleaning with ethyl acetate task, in the quality control department of the paint factory. The test is performed according to the ASTM F 739-96 standard. Three workers were recruited in the study. Every step of the task was observed by the researcher, and recorded by the workers. They were trained in how to use and clean the gloves. The gloves were collected on the assigned date to test for permeation. The permeation rate and breakthrough time of ethyl acetate through the gloves were compared. The permeation performance of the 3-day of Ansell NeotopTM have an average breakthrough time of 6.15 min, and an average permeation rate of 27.35 µg/cm2 /min. While the Ansell BarrierTM gloves have a longer breakthrough time (480 minutes) and were not permeated within the studied period. The study results also show that they can be reused at least 7 days, with a breakthrough time longer than 480 minutes. However, the gloves should not be used further, because the seam tends to break after the seventh day. For further study, various types of work should be focused on in order to identify related factors and how much each factor contributes to permeation performance of one type of gloves. Then, the breakthrough time may be predicted for other kinds of work based on those factors.xiii, 114 leaves : ill.application/pdfengผลงานนี้เป็นลิขสิทธิ์ของมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล ขอสงวนไว้สำหรับเพื่อการศึกษาเท่านั้น ต้องอ้างอิงแหล่งที่มา ห้ามดัดแปลงเนื้อหา และห้ามนำไปใช้เพื่อการค้าEthyl acetateGloves -- Health aspectsHygieneThe permeation of ethyl acetate through repeatedly used gloves in the container cleaning task in the quality control department of a paint factoryการแพร่ของสารเอทิลอะซิเตทผ่านถุงมือที่ถูกใช้งานซ้ำในงานล้างภาชนะ แผนกควบคุมคุณภาพ อุตสาหกรรมผลิตสีMaster ThesisMahidol University
