This chapter discusses major current issues in international expansion of companies in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly focusing on barriers to internationalization. Based on the selected theories and models, barriers to internationalization identified in this chapter are categorized into internal and external barriers. Internal barriers include financial and resource-related barriers, managerial/functional barriers, marketing-related barriers, and knowledge-related barriers, while external barriers consist of procedural barriers, governmental barriers, and environmental and task barriers. These barriers may not only negatively affect the companies' foreign activities, but may also prevent them from entering the internationalization stage altogether.Mahidol UniversityBusiness, Management and AccountingEconomics, Econometrics and FinanceContemporary Issues in Internationalization of Asia Pacific CompaniesChapterSCOPUS10.1016/B978-0-08-100813-3.00010-9
