Modification of the codon bias of gene sequences is a promising tool of gene expression control. This review presents the theoretical basis of the codon optimization and summarizes the published data on experimental modification of the codon bias of viral genes for the purposes of vaccine development. Studies aimed at enhancing the immunogenicity of influenza vaccines by means of codon optimization are discussed in detail. The prospects of applying the codon optimization technique for the development of influenza vaccines are analyzed.Mahidol UniversityBiochemistry, Genetics and Molecular BiologyImmunology and MicrobiologyMedicineHemagglutinin codon optimization: a promising tool for enhancing the immunogenicity of influenza virus vaccinesReviewSCOPUS10.3103/S089141681404003X
