Item Metadata only Single pass cladding process using hot-wire gas shielded welding technique(Mahidol University. Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, 2024) Pattanawit Suntiniwat; Eakkachai Warinsiriruk; Thanakorn Naenna; Soranat Raibhu; Sutep Joy-A-KaThe aim of this study is to improve cladding process productivity in width area with low dilution process by specifying technique as hot-wire GMAW process. The base metal of carbon steel SA516 Gr70 was cladded by austenitic stainless steel 309LSi for creating a buttering layer and stainless steel 308LSi for topping a cladding layer in a single-pass. The studied parameters consist of the arc voltage, feeding ratio of hotwire feeding speed per GMAW wire feeding speed and travel speed. Welding phenomenon during welding was observed by CCD camera fitted with specifying optical device to see appropriate condition for the cladding process. Then, the infrared (IR) camera was used to monitor the welded metal cooling rate. Liquid tin quenching was applied for freezing welded pool to investigate microstructure. The result showed the hot-wire GMAW cladding process could reduce cycle time 3.5 times compared with conventional FCAW with dilution 15% and optimize microstructure (3 FN) for service condition of the cladding process on the top surface. Therefore, the single pass cladding process achieved by using this method with low dilution by still, keeps microstructure capability.
