Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, 2024) Renuka Thongneam; Sudsabuy Chulakadabba; Sirinadda PunyapasAutomatic thoughts and coping strategies play critical roles in depression and anxiety, especially when individual experiences with threat or stress situation. This study aimed to study automatic thought, coping strategies and the relationship between automatic thoughts and coping strategies in juvenile delinquents in Juvenile Observation and Protection Center in Bangkok. Participants were 15-18 years of age juvenile delinquents. A total 103 subjects were enrolled. The instruments included the demographic questionnaires, Children's Automatic Thought Scale-Negative/Positive and Coping Strategies questionnaire. All of the questionnaires were self-report questionnaires and personal's identity untraceable. This study finds that most of juvenile delinquents in Juvenile Observation and Protection Center in Bangkok use Problem-Focused Coping Strategy (54.4%) 35.9% of the subjects use Social Support Coping Strategy, and 9.7% of the subjects use Avoidant Coping Strategy. Juvenile delinquents' Negative Automatic Thoughts score is at the average level, and Positive Automatic Thought's score are statically significant higher than Negative Automatic Thought's. Social-Support Coping Strategy has statically significant negative relations with Hostility Negative Automatic Thoughts, Personal Failure Negative Automatic Thoughts and Negative Automatic Thought. Problem-Focused Coping Strategy and Avoidant Coping Strategy are not found to be related with Negative and Positive Automatic Thoughts. The findings also show that juvenile delinquents have statically significant higher score of Positive Automatic Thought than that of Negative Automatic Thought. Most of juvenile delinquents use Problem-Focused Coping Strategy which is a healthy coping way. No clear relationship between Automatic Thought and Coping Strategies among juvenile delinquents in Juvenile Observation and Protection Center have been found.
