    An alternative approach to α-methylene lactone

    Model syntheses of α-methylene-γ-butyrolactones have been achieved via an alkylation-lactonisation reaction of anthracene adducts 1a and 1b with epoxides followed by release of the methylene lactones through a retro Diels-Alder reaction. © 1979.
