อิทธิพลของเทพเจ้าฮินดูที่มีต่อนามมงคลของคนไทย

Abstract

บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาอิทธิพลของเทพเจ้าฮินดูที่มีต่อนามมงคลของ คนไทย ผลการศึกษาพบว่าจากข้อมูลชื่อที่มีความหมายเกี่ยวกับเทพเจ้าฮินดู 686 ชื่อ แบ่งออก ตามการวิเคราะห์ทางภาษาศาสตร์ในด้านความหมาย โดยศึกษาแวดวงความหมายของชื่อได้ 5 ความหมาย นับจากร้อยละสูงสุดไปสู่ต่ำสุด ได้แก่ 1) ความหมายถึงเทพเจ้าและกลุ่มเทพเจ้า 2)ความหมายเปรียบเทียบกับเทพเจ้าหรือสิ่งที่เกี่ยวกับเทพเจ้า 3) ความหมายแสดงลักษณะ ของเทพเจ้า 4) ความหมายแสดงว่าเทพเจ้าเป็นเจ้าของและที่มาของสรรพสิ่ง 5) ความหมาย แสดงความชื่นชมยินดีต่อเทพเจ้า นามมงคลที่มีความหมายเกี่ยวข้องกับเทพเจ้าพบ 26 ความหมายโดยเรียงลำดับตามความถี่ 10 อันดับแรกที่หมายถึงเทพเจ้าเดี่ยวๆ ได้แก่ 1) พระ อาทิตย์2) พระจันทร์3) พระศิวะ/พระอิศวร 4) พระพรหม 5) พระวิษณุ/พระนารายณ์6) พระกฤษณะ 7) พระอินทร์8) พระลักษมี 9) พระนางปารวตี และ 10) พระอัคนี นอกจากนี้ ยังมีนามมงคลที่มีความหมายถึงกลุ่มเทพเจ้าที่มากกว่าหนึ่งองค์ไปจนถึงสี่องค์ เทพเจ้าฮินดู เป็นการยกระดับจากรูปภาษาในความหมายเบื้องต้น ไปสู่ความหมายทางวัฒนธรรมเป็น มายาคติซึ่งได้แพร่กระจาย และผสมผสานกันมาอย่างยาวนาน ได้รับการสถาปนาให้มีพลัง หรือความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ มีสถานะสูงส่งเหนือมนุษย์ และเป็นที่พึ่งทางจิตใจของมนุษย์ คนไทยจึง ยอมน้อมนำให้ความหมายของเทพเจ้าเป็นนามมงคลด้วย

Thai society pays great attention to the importance of auspicious names with positive and beneficial meanings including those of Hindu gods. The objective of this paper is to study the influence of Hindu gods in Thai auspicious naming. According to the data, there are 686 names associated with Hindu gods. From a linguistic study of the semantic domains of these names, five semantic domains are found, ordered from highest to lowest in popularity, namely: 1) gods and groups of gods 2) metaphors of gods and things 3) god-like characteristics 4) god possession and ownership of things and 5) appreciation of gods. According to Thai auspicious names related to gods, of the twenty six presented, ten were especially popular as follows: 1) Sun 2) Moon 3) Shiva/Isavara 4) Brahma 5) Vishnu/Naraya 6) Krishna 7) Indra 8) Lakshmi 9) Parvati and 10) Agni respectively. Moreover, combinations of one to four god attributes to make an auspicious name were also found. Hindu god names were upgraded from their original meanings to possess cultural meanings according to mythologies, which became diffused and integrated over time. This created a powerful or sacred representation above humans and can be dependent. Therefore, Thais reference the characteristics and virtues of Hindu gods in selecting desirable auspicious names.
