การศึกษาการบริโภคอาหารและน้ำรวมทั้งอัตราการเจริญเติบโตของหนู Outbred Wistar Rat ในระบบการเลี้ยงแบบ Maximum Barrier

Abstract

ศูนย์สัตว์ทดลองแห่งชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล ดำเนินการผลิตหนู Outbred Wistar Rat ภายใต้ระบบการเลี้ยงแบบ Maximum Barrier ที่มีการควบคุม Heat, Ventilating and Air Conditioning system (HVAC) กำหนดการให้อาหารและน้ำแบบให้มีกินตลอดเวลา (ad libitum) จึงมีปริมาณอาหารและน้ำเหลือ ดังนั้นจึงได้ดำเนินการศึกษาการบริโภคอาหารและน้ำของหนู Outbred Wistar Rat อายุ 3-12 สัปดาห์ เพื่อให้ทราบถึงปริมาณการบริโภคอาหารและน้ำในแต่ละสัปดาห์ และไปกำหนดปริมาณการให้ที่เหมาะสม ซึ่งจากผลการศึกษาพบว่า หนูเพศผู้มีการบริโภคอาหารและน้ำมากกว่าหนูเพศเมียแตกต่างอย่างมีนัยสำคัญที่ระดับ 0.05 โดย p น้อยกว่า 0.0007 และ p น้อยกว่า 0.0025 ตามลำดับ โดยมีปริมาณการบริโภคอาหารและน้ำ สอดคล้องกับมาตรฐานการให้อาหาร 15-30 กรัม/ตัว/วัน และ น้ำ 24-60 มิลลิลิตร/ตัว/วัน ในหนูโตเต็มวัย และทำให้สามารถกำหนดปริมาณการให้อาหารและน้ำของหนูในแต่ละสัปดาห์ ซึ่งจะส่งผลให้สามารถลดปริมาณอาหารและน้ำที่เหลือจากการให้หนูลงได้ รวมทั้งลดต้นทุนลง สำหรับข้อมูลอัตราการเจริญเติบโตของหนูดังกล่าวพบว่า ทั้งหนูเพศผู้และเพศเมียมีอัตราการเจริญเติบโตเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็วในสัปดาห์ที่ 3-6 แต่ในสัปดาห์ที่ 7-12 สัปดาห์ มีอัตราการเจริญเติบโตเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างช้าๆ เกือบคงที่ ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับอัตราการเจริญเติบโตของหนู Outbred Wistar Rat ของศูนย์สัตว์ทดลองแห่งชาติ ทั้งนี้ข้อมูลอัตราการเจริญเติบโตนี้สามารถนำไปใช้เป็นข้อมูลพื้นฐานในงานวิจัยที่ใช้หนู Outbred Wistar Rat ที่เลี้ยงภายใต้ระบบการเลี้ยงแบบ Maximum Barrier-HVAC ได้ต่อไป

National Laboratory Animal Center (NLAC), Mahidol University has produced Outbred Wistar Rat under Maximum Barrier with controlling Heat, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system. Food and water was provided ad libitum and it had the remaining food and water after providing. Therefore, NLAC was studying to find the quantity of food and water consumption of 3 ] 12 wks. Outbred Wistar Rat in order to provide appropriately food and water in each age of rats. This study showed that male rats consumed food and water more than female rats significantly different at 0.05 (P < 0.0007 and p < 0.0025 respectively) and these data correlated with the standard that were 15 ] 30 g./animal / day of food providing and 24 -60 ml. / animal / day of water providing in adult rats and could be indicated the amount of food and water consumption in each age of rats that would be reduced the remaining food and water include costs. The growth rate result of Outbred Wistar Rat found that the growth rate of male and female rat increased very fast in age 3-6 wks., but age 7-12 wks. increased slowly almost constantly that correlated with the growth rate of Outbred Wistar Rat of NLAC. Then, the growth rate data of males and females cloud be used as information in the reserch that used Outbred Wistar Rat under Maximum Barrier ] HVAC.
