การจัดตั้งโคโลนีหนูแรทสายพันธุ์ห่าง Sprague Dawley ในหน่วยปลอดเชื้อจำเพาะที่ศูนย์สัตว์ทดลองแห่งชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล

Abstract

National Laboratory Animal Center (NLAC), Mahidol University breeds and supplies various types of high quality laboratory animal for scientific purpose. For development and management of husbandry system, NLAC has bred Sprague Dawlay rat in low barrier system previously. Later, Sprague Dawlay rat colony has been established in maximum barrier with Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) under the specific pathogen free system (SPF) by using hysterectomy section. In term of microbiological testing, the result shows that they were free from pathogens in specific pathogens list of NLAC. Breeding performance of F1 and F2 including percentage of fertility (%F) were 87.36 and 93.19, percentage of production (%P) were 78.54 and 78.47, percentage of weaning (%W) were 85.96 and 84.29. Moreover, litter size of F1 and F2 were 11.33 and 10.79. Furthermore, the statistical analysis (student t-test) indicated that the breeding performance of 2 generations (F1 and F2) in Maximum barrier with HVAC colony were not significant different from breeding performance of low barrier colony.
