The experimental demonstration of a low-cost 37-horn focal-plane array consisting of smooth-walled multiple flare-angle horns fabricated by direct drilling
    (2011-01-01) J. Leech; B. K. Tan; G. Yassin; P. Kittara; S. Wangsuya; University of Oxford; Mahidol University
In previous work, we have described novel smoothwalled multiple flare-angle horns designed using a genetic algorithm. A key feature of these horns is that they can be manufactured very rapidly and cheaply in large numbers, by repeated direct... drilling into a single plate of aluminium using a shaped machine tool. The rapid manufacturing technique will enable the construction of very low cost focal-plane arrays, offering an alternative to conventional electroformed corrugated horn arrays. In order

Evaluating the performance and kinetics of amine-modified NaY zeolites from rice husk for direct air CO2 capture
    (2025-06-01) Nokpho P.; Phianchana K.; Wang X.; Boonprasop S.; Piumsomboon P.; Chalermsinsuwan B.; Nokpho P.; Mahidol University
High-purity silica derived from rice husk, a low-cost and abundant agricultural byproduct, was utilized to synthesize NaY zeolite via hydrothermal. The resulting NaY zeolite, with a specific surface area of 666 m2/g, was modified with various amines... to enhance direct air CO2 capture performance. 30 wt% MEA/NaY sorbent exhibited the highest CO2 uptake, achieving approximately 14.5 mgCO2/g at 30 °C. Sorbent retained about 96 percent of its initial capacity after ten cycles. Kinetic analysis using Avrami

EVALUATING RESOURCE EFFICIENCY FOR PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD WASTE SORTING AND TRANSFER PLANT USING MATERIAL FLOW COST ACCOUNTING
(2021-01-01) Supanisara Wanwong; Suphaphat Kwonpongsagoon; Kanokwan Kingphadung; Silpakorn University; Mahidol University; Center of Excellence on Environmental Health and Toxicology (EHT)
This paper aimed to evaluate the resource efficiency of a printed circuit board waste (PCBW) sorting and transfer plant by identifying quantities of production loss and their associated true costs using the Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA...) technique. The results of this study are based on data gathered in 2019. The 5 types of waste material input transferred directly to the production system are, namely wastewater sludge, PCB border, PCB scrap, drilling PCB and punching PCB powder

A stochastic programming approach for integrated nurse staffing and assignment
(2013-10-01) Prattana Punnakitikashem; Jay M. Rosenberber; Deborah F. Buckley-Behan; Mahidol University; University of Texas at Arlington
The shortage of nurses has attracted considerable attention due to its direct impact on the quality of patient care. High workloads and undesirable schedules are two major reasons for nurses to report job dissatisfaction. The focus of this article... is to find non-dominated solutions to an integrated nurse staffing and assignment problem that minimizes excess workload on nurses and staffing cost. A stochastic integer programming model with an objective to minimize excess workload subject to a hard budget

Optimal design for energy usage of cooling system in animal farm using CFD model
(2019-11-01) Chawannat Jaroenkhasemmeesuk; Nipat Noysiri; Teerachot Jumroonroge; Katayut Kamano; Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna; Mahidol University
for their hygiene. The major cost to operate an animal house is the energy cost to control the most suitable condition for animals. Thai agriculturists normally operated their farms based on their understanding or their own experiment without any analysis. This may... lead to the wrong solutions and unsustainable condition. In this work, the swine house was considered as a study case to optimize condition between suitable condition (thermo-neutral zone) for pigs and energy cost. The cooling system includes cooling

Measured performance of a 230 GHz prototype focal-plane feedhorn array made by direct drilling of smooth-walled horns
    (2010-12-01) J. Leech; B. K. Tan; G. Yassin; P. Kittara; A. Jiralucksanawong; S. Wangsuya; University of Oxford; Mahidol University
We present the first, complete 230 GHz feedhorn array manufactured by direct drilling of smooth-walled horns into a single plate of aluminium. The horn design process, based on a genetic algorithm, is described and the fabrication process, via... direct drilling using shaped drill bits, is presented. We present cross coupling and beam pattern measurements of a close-packed pair of the smooth-walled horns fabricated in a single block of aluminium. We also present a prototype 37 horn array, again

Social data shoes for gait monitoring of elderly people in smart home
(2017-02-21) Thirawut Nilpanapan; Teerakiat Kerdcharoen; Mahidol University
. For this objective, data shoes own many advantages such as cheaper cost and rich of direct information from the walking. In this paper, we have developed a data shoe system for gait monitoring in home area. To observe gait behaviors, the sensor suite includes five... force sensitive resistors (FSRs) which were installed on the insole of the shoe. Zigbee wireless communication technology was used as low-cost data transfer between the sensor suite and the receiver system which is USB-connected to a computer

A Business Model Guideline of Electricity Utility Systems Based on Blockchain Technology in Thailand: A Case Study of Consumers, Prosumers and SMEs
    (2020-01-01) Adisorn Leelasantitham; Mahidol University
) is proposed to utilize the case study of consumers and prosumers/SMEs in Thailand based on a decentralized system. The P2P trading is directly the buying and selling of electricity between both consumers and prosumers. It is not a passed intermediary...; otherwise, an intermediate process can be cut by this trading in order to save and reduce electricity costs. Preliminary expected impacts of cost structure analysis are summarized in terms of comparisons between the existing electricity trading
