Publication Metadata only The nutrition and health transition in Thailand(2002-12-01) Vongsvat Kosulwat; Mahidol Universityfrom the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and national surveys on the nutrition and health situation of the Thai population. Results: Thailand has undergone social and economic transitions during the past three decades and is approaching the post...-demographic transitional period. These are evidenced by an increase in life expectancy at birth of the population, and declines in the total fertility and infant mortality rates. The economic structure has also moved from agricultural to industrial. It hypothesized that transition from unmarried to married adults significantly increased the body weight. We... controlled for sociodemographic, health behaviors, and psychological aspect. The objective of the present study is to summarise trends in under- and over-nutrition in pregnant women on the Thailand-Myanmar border. Refugees contributed data from 1986 to 2016 and migrants from 1999 to 2016 for weight at first antenatal consultation. BMI and gestational weight gain (GWG) data were available during 2004-2016 when height was routinely measured. Risk factors for low and high BMI were analysed for <18·5 kg/m2 or ≥23 kg/m2, respectively. A total of 48 062 pregnancies over 30 years were available for weight analysis and 14 646 pregnancies over 13 years (2004-2016) had BMI measured in first trimester (<14 weeks' gestational age). Mean weight at first antenatal consultation in any trimester increased over the 30-year period by 2·0 to 5·2 kg for all women. First trimester BMI has been increasing on average by 0·5 kg/m2 for refugees and 0·6 kg/m2 for migrants, every 5 years. The proportion of women with low BMI in the first trimester decreased from 16·7 to 12·7 % for refugees and 23·1 to 20·2 % for migrants, whereas high BMI increased markedly from 16·9 to 33·2 % for refugees and 12·3 to 28·4 % for migrants. Multivariate analysis demonstrated low BMI as positively associated with being Burman, Muslim, primigravid, having malaria during pregnancy and smoking, and negatively associated with refugee as opposed to migrant status. High BMI was positively associated with being Muslim and literate, and negatively associated with age, primigravida, malaria, anaemia and smoking. Mean GWG was 10·0 (sd 3·4), 9·5 (sd 3·6) and 8·3 (sd 4·3) kg, for low, normal and high WHO BMI categories for Asians, respectively.Publication Metadata only Population pharmacokinetic modeling of tribendimidine metabolites in Opisthorchis viverrini-infected adults(2016-10-01) Fiona Vanobberghen; Melissa A. There is a pressing need for alternative treatments against the liver fluke Opisthorchis viverrini. Oral tribendimidine is a promising candidate, but its population pharmacokinetic properties are unknown. Two... whole blood, plasma, and capillary dried blood spots were sampled frequently from 68 adults, and concentrations of the tribendimidine metabolites dADT (deacetylated amidantel) and adADT (acetylated dADT) were measured. Nonetheless, these variables and outcomes have yet to be assessed in a ThaiPublication Metadata only Thailand nutrition in transition: Situation and challenges of maternal and child nutrition(2013-01-01) Pattanee Winichagoon; Mahidol UniversityDouble burden of malnutrition (DBMN), the coexistence of under- and overnutrition in the same population, is an emerging public health concern in developing countries, including Thailand. This paper aims to review the maternal and child nutritionPublication Metadata only Adiposity in women and children from transition countries predicts decreased iron absorption, iron deficiency and a reduced response to iron fortification(2008-07-01) M. Therefore, we investigated the association between body mass index (BMI) and iron absorption, iron status and the response to iron fortification in populations from three transition countries (Thailand, Morocco and India). Methods: In Thai women...Background: Overweight is increasing in transition countries, while iron deficiency remains common. In industrialized countries, greater adiposity increases risk of iron deficiency. Higher hepcidin levels in obesity may reduce dietary ironPublication Metadata only Femoral neck-shaft angle in humans: Variation relating to climate, clothing, lifestyle, sex, age and side(2013-08-01) Ian Gilligan; Supichya Chandraphak; Pasuk Mahakkanukrauh; Australian National University; Mahidol University; Chiang Mai Universityancestral populations were exposed to colder conditions, in Europe (126°) and the Americas (125°).
