A survey was conducted to collect data from women aged 13 to 49 years in urban and rural areas in the four regions of Thailand. The statistical technique used to analyze data was Structural Equation Modeling. The results of the analysis indicated that the indicators could reflect the health status in the dimensions of the physical and the mental, including the social. The results for the categorization of the indicator groups for the group of women aged from 13 to 18 years and 19 to 49 years yielded the following group of six dimensions: physical health, mental health, social health, health-promoting behavior, health risk behavior and reproductive health. Structural equation modeling was employed to examine the theoretical models of the Healthy Women in Reproductive age construct. This study hypothesized that there are differences between adolescents and adult women in term of “Healthy during Reproductive age”. Thus, the analysis was divided into two models, one for adolescents and the other for adults. The model of adolescents aged 13-18 years was revised by measuring the model fit using goodness of fit index (GFI = 0.96), adjusted goodness of fit index (AGFI = 0.95) and root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA = 0.029). The final model showed that social health had a direct positive effect on mental health (? = 0.46, p < 0.01). The model of women aged 19-49 years measured model fit using GFI = 0.96, AGFI = 0.95 and RMSEA = 0.038. The final model showed that social health had a direct positive effect on mental health (? = 0.36, p < 0.01). These indicators would prove valid, reliable and useful if they were to be used by people in the community by modifying and supplementing some parts to suit the variable conditions and lifestyle of that particular community.Publication Open Access Lime and Lignite Fly Ash as cement replacement in hazardous waste solidification process: Case study of spent fluorescent lamp(2009-12) Petcharat Jekjuntuk; Chumporn Yuwaree; Gritsanaruk Theeraraj; Rungjarat Hutacharoen; Jirapun Chotiratanarak; Mahidol University. Faculty of Environment and Natural Resource StudiesThe main objective of this research is aimed at the usage of lignite fly ash (power plant) and lime as cement replacement in hazardous - waste solidification process of spent fluorescent lamp. The study found that the increasing of waste ratio in solidification process has the trend to increase density and mercury leaching concentration. Different binder ratios and waste ratios produced different strength effects on the solidified sample. Mercury leaching concentration decreased with increasing curing times, whereas the density and the strength trend to decrease after 14 days. In consideration the properties of solidified sample and cost of solidifying material, a ratio of cement to lime to fly ash of 0:30:70 was found to be the most optimum ratio for solidifying spent fluorescent lamps (at a ratio of spent fluorescent lamp to binder of 2:1), with curing time more than 7-days. Accordingly, it is reasonable to assume lime and lignite fly ash are considerably better for use as a cement replacement alternative for spent fluorescent lamp solidification. METHODS: Two public secondary schools in the suburban areas of Bangkok were randomly selected. One was designated as the experimental school and the other as the comparison school. Ninety grade seven and eight teachers, 45 from each school, were selected to participate in the study. Self efficacy theory and culturally appropriate basis were applied to develop the program which included 4 weeks of intervention and 2 weeks of follow up. Primary outcomes were attitudes toward sex education, perceived self efficacy, and sex education skills. Statistical analysis included independent and paired t test, and repeated one-way analysis of variance. RESULTS: At the end of the intervention and during the follow-up period, the intervention group had significantly higher mean scores of attitudes toward sex education, perceived self efficacy, and sex education skills than their scores before (p < .001), and than those of the comparison group (p < .001). CONCLUSION: The results showed that Culturally Sensitive Sex Education Skill Development could enhance attitudes and sex education self efficacy to promote the implementation of sex education among teachers.Publication Open Access Assistive Technology for Children with Disabilities: Advantages, challenges, and its applications(2554) ปรียาสิริ มานะสันต์; มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล. คณะแพทยศาสตร์ โรงพยาบาลรามาธิบดีDespite the concerns associated with the increase in using assistive technology for education in recent years, schools have expressed a willingness to include assistive technology for students with disabilities into the curriculum. Thus, technology is often described as the most important upon shaping the society and not only in the general society as a whole, but also expanded the possibility of inclusion in school setting. Although there is an excellent evidence for the efficacy of using various technologies to enhance emergent academic skills in children with disabilities; society, including parents and professionals, has been slow in acknowledging these positive and expected findings about its applications. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the advantages, challenges of assistive technology and its application.Publication Open Access Kinetic properties and stability of glucose dehydrogenase from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens SB5 and its potential for cofactor regeneration(2015) Thunyarat Pongtharangkul; Pattra Chuekitkumchorn; Nhuengtida Suwanampa; Panwajee Payongsri; Kohsuke Honda; Watanalai Panbangred; Mahidol University. ASEAN Institute for Health DevelopmentTambon Health Promoting Hospitals (THPHs) are the first level of public health service system. Before the health service system reform, the THPHs confronted with inefficient management. Leadership and job satisfaction in THPHs have been developed and expanded responsibilities to conform health system reformation in Thailand. This research aimed to identify the perceived transformation and transactional leadership behaviors among THPHs directors associated with their jobs satisfaction. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 32 district health offices which consisted 349 directors of sub-districts health offices. The sample of 267 directors was randomly selected from Tambon Health Promoting Hospitals of Nakhonratchasima province, Thailand. The self-administered questionnaires were used to collect data by the mail survey which enclosed self-addressed stamped envelopes. The response rate was 100%. The survey period was limited in 30 days during April to May in 2013. The questionnaires composed of 3 parts: socio-economic factors, district public health officer leadership behaviors and job satisfaction which obtained reliability of 0.989 and 0.975. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression were used to analyze the data. This study found that overall satisfaction of directors in Tambon Health Promoting Hospitals were moderate level. They were proud of their work and found that their work were challenging (mean score of motivating factor=2.38), although their working conditions were not fully supporting them (mean score of hygiene factor = 2.13). After adjusting for confounding factors, this study found that the strongest factors were monthly salary factor (Adj. OR=2.379, 95% CI=1.169-3.850) and the perceived overall leadership style of transformation and transactional leadership within the high level (Adj. OR=70.801, 95% CI=8.691–576.804) significantly associated to job satisfaction among Tambon Health Promoting Hospitals directors (p-value<0.05). The management for training directors in Tambon Health Promoting Hospitals or in district healthcare centers should be focused mainly on job satisfaction. This has to be provided to meet their sufficient salary and overtime payments, sufficient personnel, and modern and standard instruments. To develop human capital of district health promoting hospital administrators, the directors of THPHS should emphasis on leadership development especially in promoting inspiration and conditional rewards.Publication Open Access Life happiness of the elderly in Rayong Province(2009) Chutigai Tuntichaivanit; Sutham Nanthamongkolchai; Chokchai Munsawaengsub; Phitaya Charupoonphol; สุธรรม นันทมงคลชัย; โชคชัย หมั่นแสวงทรัพย์; พิทยา จารุพูนผล; Sutham Nanthamongkolchai; Mahidol university. Faculty of Public Health. Department of Family HealthThe objectives of this cross-sectional survey research were to study the life happiness and the factors influencing the life happiness of the elderly in Rayong province. The samples included 400 elderly aged between 60-80 years which were selected by multi-stage random sampling. The data were collected by interview questionnaires from June 1st to July 31st 2008 and analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square test, Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient and Stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results showed that 48.0 percent of the elderly had a moderate level of life happiness, followed by those with a high level (27.8%) and those with a low level (24.2%). The factors which were significantly associated with life happiness of the elderly were gender, education, health condition, personality, self - esteem, family relationships, roles of the elderly in the family, monthly income of the family, social support, participation in social activities and perception of social circumstances (p-value < 0.05). The statistically significant predictor variables were self-esteem, social support, family relationships, participation in social activities and perception of social circumstances. The result of classification was 91.2% correctly classified. The finding suggest that the responsible organizations should establish the reinforcement to promote happiness of the elderly by improving the elderly’s self-esteem. There should also be sufficient social support, family relationship and participation in social activities as well as management of social circumstances in agreement with individual personal need and life style, to maintain the life happiness of the elderly.
