Information technology implementation by applying NIE - SDLC model: The case study on an organization in Thailand

Abstract

Business organizations are now approving the use of Information Technology (IT) to improve business performance. However, not many organizations successfully achieve the implementation of the IT process and have successful impact on their IT projects. It is very important to find the problems and the solutions as management view. The primary objective of this study is to identify significant problems in the Information Technology implementation process from a management perspective. In this study, a research model, called New Information Economics (NIE)-System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) was developed to facilitate IT project management for business managers. The overall research design for this study was a Qualitative method using descriptive interviews and surveys to solicit expert and practitioner opinion in an company in Thailand. The analysis results reported in this paper identify significant problems in the area of IT implementation with regard to the absence of a planning model and adequate training, which correlates to rapidly changing technology, existing systems, and other issues that influence the IT implementation. This study assists in the future development of IT management models for business organizations and proposes an essential framework for the future study for IT management in planning and implementation effectiveness. © 2005 IEEE.
