dc.description.abstract | In this chapter we estimate the prevalence and correlates of angina pectoris among middle-aged and older adults in India. The cross-sectional sample consisted of 72,262 individuals (≥45 years) from the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) Wave 1 in 2017-2018. Angina was assessed with the World Health Organization's Rose angina questionnaire. Results indicate that the overall prevalence of angina pectoris was 8.6%, 9.2% among women and 7.7% among men. In adjusted logistic regression analysis, factors positively associated with angina were food insecurity (Adjusted Odds Ratio-AOR: 1.64, Confidence Interval-CI: 1.44-1.87), stressful events (AOR: 1.25, CI: 1.08-1.45), high discrimination experiences (AOR: 1.26, CI: 1.06-1.50), insomnia symptoms (AOR: 1.76, CI: 1.57-1.97), major depressive disorder (AOR: 1.30, CI: 1.13-1.49), hypertension (AOR: 1.24, CI: 1.13-1.37) and diabetes (AOR: 1.33, CI: 1.16-1.54). Factors negatively associated with angina were male sex (AOR: 0.96, CI: 0.770.95), higher education (AOR: 0.71, CI: 0.60-0.83), receipt of health insurance (AOR: 0.78, CI: 0.70-0.86), urban residence (AOR: 0.76, CI: 0.68-0.84) and edentulism (AOR: 0.75, CI: 0.63-0.89). Almost one in ten middle-aged and older adults in India had angina and several associated factors were identified. | en_US |
