Some immunologic and nonimmunologic responses in the development and regression of Friend virus (FV)-induced leukemia were studied. FV-neutralizing antibody was detected in both A/J and (A/J × C57BL/6J)F 1 mice and their reciprocal hybrids. Subsequently, the antibody disappeared in “progressor” mice (i.e., those mice which developed leukemia and died), while it persisted in “regressor” mice (i.e., those mice developing leukemia that subsequently regressed). Only “regressor” (A/J × C57BL/6J)F 1 and their reciprocal hybrids but not regressor or progressor A/J mice had humoral cytotoxic activity, as detected by the chromium-release assay method. Interferon was probably not a significant factor in the control of FV-induced leukemia. © 1974 Oxford University Press. All rights reserved.en_US
