Abstract
n attempt to increase susceptibility of rats to Brugia pahangi by host selection several rats showed evidence of splenic granuloma. Four spleens from microfilariae positive selected rats contained numerous white spots or nodules of the granuloma containing microfilariae. The spleenic granuloma was also present in an infected rat treated with 6 mercaptopurine and in 2 gerbils infected with Brugia pahangi. The finding of splenic granuloma and the relatively high eosineophilia in the rodents in this study might lead to new lines of research on the precise mechanism and pathology of tropical pulmonary eosinophilia.
