A convenient means of measuring apoptosis is described using an automated analyzer (MF-1; Sysmex), which normally provides rapid measurement of malarial parasites. By means of this MF-1 procedure, apoptotic cells exhibited characteristic changes of light scatter (size) and fluorescence (DNA content) relating to cell shrinkage and nuclear fragmentation of apoptosis. © 2000 Academic Press.en_US
