Reviewing published literatures, until recently most of chronically implanted cardiac arrhythmia device leads were removed surgically. In the later years more reports of transvenous lead extraction system we published. These may be related to late availability of transvenous lead extraction system, difficulties getting adequate training, awareness of referring physician and cost issues. We reported our initial experience with excimer laser lead extraction at the APHRS 2008. Since 2006 to October 2010 we extracted 50 chronically implanted pacemaker or defibrillator leads from 38 patients were extracted. All leads were completely extracted. Most leads were extracted with laser extraction system. 42 leads were extracted with laser system. These were 7 RA, 24 RV, 17 ICD and 1 LV leads. Six leads required snaring from femoral approach. All leads were completely removed. There was no morbidity or major complication. © 2011, Japanese Heart Rhythm Society. All rights reserved.en_US
