Hevea calmodulin was isolated from the C-serum fraction of centrifuged fresh latex. The purified protein has an M r of 17 500. It is able to activate 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (HMGR) as well as NAD kinase in the bottom fraction of centrifuged latex. Hevea calmodulin can activate NAD kinase from liver, similar to the activation found with brain calmodulin. These data may indicate a role for calmodulin in the regulation of HMGR, and hence rubber biosynthesis. © 1982.en_US
