Abstract
This study explores future powertrain systems with the aim of defining the most probable implantation road map for the different alternatives to improve powertrain efficiency. A new methodology called technology development envelope (TDE) for transforming the roadmapping approach to the level in which it is dynamic, flexible and operationalisable is used for a case study of Ford Otosan's technological planning concept. In the first section, technologic roadmapping methodology is explained. As a next step, each powertrain solution is explained. Advantages regarding efficiency, fuel consumption, cost-effectiveness, emissions, infrastructure and performance have been listed. In the next sections, TDE methodology and the application DELPHI method are described in detail. A series of criteria and sub-factors have been generated with the aim to compare the different powertrain systems to identify the best solutions. Copyright © 2010 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
