Environmental quality assessment criteria for recreational beach: a case study of Cha-Am beach, Petchburi province

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess Cha-am Beach quality, Petchaburi province. This assessment criterion was designed by the researcher and also considered and improved through specialist’s opinion. It was based on 50 specific indicators covering aspects of physical, social, pollution, and biological. All of these were analyzed, marked and totaled according to the Simple Weighting Score Equation of Morgan, 1999, and classified beach quality into 4 Classes, A, B, C and D. As a result, Cha-am beach was classified in Class B, a widely variety of tourism facilities e.g. hotel, restaurant, souvenir, etc. and good access, but pollution is the serious problem, especially unpleasant noise and odors from road vehicles, strong water color and odor from untreated wastewater discharged directly from the restaurant and resort area nearby the shore. This criterion can be applying to other recreational beaches in Thailand, Furthermore both the local government and concerned organizations would virtually set up the development policy and environmental management for sustainable tourism.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสร้างรูปแบบการประเมินคุณภาพสิ่งแวดล้อมชายหาด โดยวิธีการประเมินประยุกต์จากงานวิจัยของต่างประเทศและพิจารณาความถูกต้องเหมาะสมโดยผู้เชี่ยวชาญจานวน 17 ท่าน รูปแบบการประเมินที่ได้นามาประยุกต์ใช้กับชายหาดชะอา จังหวัดเพชรบุรี ดาเนินการเก็บข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสอบถาม การสังเกตและการวิเคราะห์ทางห้องปฏิบัติการครอบคลุมปัจจัยสิ่งแวดล้อม 4 ด้าน คือ สิ่งแวดล้อมด้านกายภาพ สังคม มลพิษและชีวภาพ รวม 50 ตัวชี้วัด และใช้สมการถ่วงน้าหนักอย่างง่ายของ Morgan, 1999 ในการคานวณค่าคะแนนเพื่อแบ่งระดับชั้นคุณภาพชายหาด ผลการศึกษาพบว่าคุณภาพสิ่งแวดล้อมของชายหาดชะอาโดยรวมอยู่ในเกณฑ์ดี ดังจะเห็นได้จากความพร้อมของธุรกิจบริการการท่องเที่ยวไม่ว่าจะเป็นที่พัก ร้านอาหาร นันทนาการ แต่สิ่งที่เป็นปัญหาคือการระบายน้าทิ้งจากร้านอาหารและที่พัก ริมทะเล กลิ่นและเสียงรบกวนจากยานพาหนะอยู่ในระดับที่เป็นปัญหา ดังนั้นข้อมูลที่ได้จากการประเมินจักเป็นฐานข้อมูลที่เป็นประโยชน์ให้แก่องค์กรและหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องในการกาหนดนโยบายพัฒนาและการจัดการสิ่งแวดล้อมเพื่อการท่องเที่ยวอย่างยั่งยืนต่อไป
