In Thailand, especially in provincial hospitals, blood and blood components are not available all the time. In some cases, in whom bleeding was profuse, antifibrinolysin was given, and surprisingly the bleeding was arrested and the patients soon recovered completely. These observations led to further studies to elucidate whether there would be any definite evidence of increased fibrinolysis as well as disseminated intravascular coagulation in abruptio placentae.en_US
