Abstract
An efficient asymmetric synthesis of β-hydroxy sulfonates is described via stereocontrolled aldol reactions of sulfonates using 1,2:5,6-di-O- isopropylidene-α-D-allofuranose as the chiral auxiliary. The aldol reactions with aromatic aldehydes yielded predominantly syn adducts in very good yields and excellent diastereo- and enantiomeric excesses (de, ee ≥98%). © Georg Thieme Verlag Stuttgart.
