การรับรู้ลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างและอิทธิพลของบุคคลรอบข้างต่อความต้องการรับการรักษาทางทันตกรรมจัดฟันของผู้ป่วยที่คลินิกจัดฟัน คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล

Abstract

วัตถุประสงค์ : การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อประเมินการตระหนักและรับรู้ลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างของตนเองของผู้ป่วย อิทธิพลของบุคคลรอบข้างต่อการรับรู้ลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างของผู้ป่วย และลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างของผู้ป่วยต่อความต้องการรักษาทางทันตกรรมจัดฟัน ในกลุ่มผู้ป่วยที่มาขอรับการรักษาทางทันตกรรมจัดฟัน ที่คลินิกจัดฟัน คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล วัสดุอุปกรณ์และวิธีการศึกษา : สุ่มผู้เข้าร่วมการศึกษา จำนวน 100 คนจากกลุ่มผู้ป่วยที่ต้องการรับการรักษาทางทันตกรรมจัดฟัน ให้ตอบแบบสอบถามโดยแบ่งกลุ่มคำถามออกเป็น 3 ส่วน ส่วนแรกเป็นคำถามเกี่ยวกับความรู้สึกของผู้ป่วยต่อลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างของตนเอง ส่วนที่สองสอบถามผู้ป่วยถึงความรู้สึกของบุคคลรอบข้างที่มีต่อลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างของผู้ป่วย และส่วนสุดท้ายสอบถามผู้ป่วยถึงลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างที่มีผลต่อความต้องการรักษาทางทันตกรรมจัดฟันของผู้ป่วย นอกจากนี้ให้ผู้เข้าร่วมการศึกษาเลือกภาพเงาดำของลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างที่คิดว่าคล้ายคลึงกับลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างของตนเองมากที่สุด จากนั้นทำการวิเคราะห์เปรียบเทียบระหว่างเงาดำที่เลือกกับลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างของผู้ป่วย ผลการศึกษา : ผู้เข้าร่วมการศึกษาร้อยละ 87 สามารถเลือกภาพเงาดำของลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างได้ตรงกับลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างของตนเอง สำหรับการสอบถามผู้เข้าร่วมการศึกษาว่ามีบุคคลรอบข้างกล่าวถึงลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างหรือไม่ พบว่าเพียงร้อยละ 44 ของบุคคลรอบข้างมีการกล่าวถึงลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างของผู้ปวย และผู้เข้าร่วมการศึกษาร้อยละ 59 ไม่เคยคิดที่จะเปลี่ยนแปลงลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างของตนเอง บทสรุป : การศึกษานี้พบว่าผู้ป่วยส่วนใหญ่ที่มารับการรักษาทางทันตกรรมจัดฟันที่คลินิกจัดฟัน คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล เป็นผู้ป่วยกลุ่มวัยรุ่นและวัยทำงาน มีการรับรู้ลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างได้ด้วยตนเอง บุคคลรอบข้างไม่มีอิทธิพลต่อการรับรู้ลักษระใบหน้าด้านข้างของผู้ป่วย และลักษณะใบหน้าด้านข้างไม่ได้เป็นสาเหตุหลักที่ผู้ป่วยมาขอรับการรักษาทางทันตกรรมจัดฟัน

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine self-awareness and perception of the facial profile, social influence on the facial profile and the influence of facial profile on the patients seeking for orthodontic treatment. Materials and methods: One hundred patients who came for orthodontic treatment at Orthodontic Clinic, Mahidol University, were randomized for surveying. The participants had to answer the questionnaires divided into 3 parts. The first part comprised the questions regarding the satisfaction of their own facial profiles. The second part was about the othersû opinions on their profiles. The last part was the reason for seeking orthodontic treatment due to their profiles. Moreover, they were asked to choose the silhouettes which were similar to their profiles. The similarity between the participantsû profile photos and the chosen silhouettes was analyzed. The descriptive statistics was used for analyzing. Results: The result showed that 87% of the participants were able to realize their own facial profiles by themselves. There was an overall agreement of the participantsû awareness and the evaluation. Only 44% of the social influence from the others on the participantsû facial profile perception was found. Fifty-nine percents of the participants did not want to change their own profiles. Therefore, the facial profiles of the patients were not their reasons for orthodontic treatment. Conclusion: This study suggests that most of the patients seeking for orthodontic treatment at Orthodontic Clinic, Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University, are teenagers and the middle-aged patients. They can characterize their own facial profiles by themselves. Social influence has less effect on the patientsû facial profile perception. Moreover, the facial profile of the patients is not their reasons for orthodontic treatment.
