Title
Transient paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria during the course of aplastic anemia
Transient appearance of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is described in two cases of aplastic anemia. The disease had acute onset in one case and seemed to be insidious in the other. The appearance of PNH red cells was far more than 'laboratory phenomenon' since the evidence of hemolysis could be clearly demonstrated in both cases. The other possibilities which may cause the transient appearance of PNH red cells in aplastic anemia cases are discussed. It is postulated that the occurrence is due to the transient existence of abnormal red blood cell clone in their bone marrows.
