dc.description.abstract | The interaction between larvae of Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus in mixed experimental populations under adequate and inadequate food supply were studied in the laboratory. The results revealed that Ae. aegypti had the beneficial effects on the development and survival of Ae. albopictus when food was adequate but adverse effects on Ae. albopictus under inadequate food. The results could possibly explain why in nature Ae. albopictus is exterminated when Ae. aegypti is present. Urbanization and ecology of mosquitoes could be factors in the decreasing number of Ae. albopictus population in urbanized areas. Further experiments are necessary to study the interaction of mosquitoes under various conditions. | en_US |
