Abstract

Bromodifluoro(phenylsulfanyl)methane undergoes a Friedel-Crafts-type alkylation, through α-fluorocarbocations, with activated aromatic compounds yielding thioesters and/or benzophenones. The methodology has been applied to the synthesis of naturally occurring xanthone derivatives. © 2011 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
