A screening scheme consisting of triple sugar iron agar and motility indole medium was applied against 188 freshly isolated strains. Cumulative percentages of correct identification were: direct identification from the scheme, 67%, after serological tests, 82%, after urease 89%, after rhamnose and raffinose, 93%, and after indicated confirmatory tests, 97%. Main sources of errors were due to lysine deaminase and decarboxylase reactions on LIA, which could be technical in origin.en_US
