Controversies in the management of severe falciparum malaria
As most cases of severe malaria are managed in rural areas where there are limited health care facilities, the real challenge is to introduce improvements that are readily and safely applicable in these circumstances. It is there that the greatest impact is likely to be made. Prevention of malaria, or early recognition of potentially life-threatening disease, is likely to save many more lives than the treatment of severe infections.
