dc.description.abstract© 2017 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved. This work developed a method to reuse the gold (Au) sensor chip for surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy. The SPR chip, used in blood group typing, was regenerated to remove a functional layer and/or biomolecular layer by UV ozone technique. The layer on the used SPR surface consisted of a functional layer of carboxymethyldextran (CMD) and a layer of biomolecules (antibody and red blood cell; RBC). The used SPR chip was exposed to UV light for a total duration of 40 minutes in 4 10-minute intervals, followed by rinsing with ethanol and deionized water. After being exposed by UV irradiation, the reuse SPR chip was characterized by the SPR imager (including SPR image and SPR curve), water contact angle technique, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and ellipsometry. The performance of the reuse SPR chip was tested in the blood group typing application and compared to that of the new SPR chip. The reuse SPR chip could correctly determine blood types as well as the new SPR chip. Thus, the method developed in this work is feasible to regenerate the surface of the SPR chip for its prolonged reuse.en_US
