Abstract
The 581 suicidal cases which occurred in the period 1960-1969, are reviewed from the autopsy reports in the Department of Forensic Medicine, Siriraj Hospital. The following conclusions are drawn: The male: female suicide ratio is 6 : 4; The highest age-group incidence is 20-39 years; Girls predominate among adolescents (0-19 years); By occupation farmers show the highest suicide rate; There is a high incidence among single as well as among married persons; Poisoning is the commonest method of suicide, Parathion being the poison of choice; A suspected predominate cause is emotional instability but among males socioeconomic factors play an important role; There were 11 pregnant cases and 17 attempters in the series studied. © 1975.
