Immune adherence hemagglutination for the detection of Australia antigen in lepromatous patients
103 sera from cases of lepromatous leprosy were investigated. In this series only 2 cases (1.94%) of lepromatous patients with Au antigen were found. One was aged 25 yr and the other 34 yr. The incidence rate was rather low, as compared with the figures previously reported i.e. from 2.5 to 17.3% depending on the age of the patients. This was probably due to the fact that the authors' patients were chronic cases, that had stayed in hospital for at least 2-3 yr; in addition, they had received specific treatment for leprosy during that time.
