Abstract
© 2016 Asian Institute of Technology. This paper presents a comparison of the response from Power Oscillation Damping (POD) function designed for a renewable energy source and the response from Power System Stabilizer (PSS) on the excitation control system. The well-known 3 machines 9 bus system, including a Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) simplified model generator/ converter was used in the study. A three phase fault was conducted in the simulation and the power system damping ratios were observed in both POD function and PSS cases. The results showed that POD function on renewable energy sources can provide satisfactory response as well as PSS for the power system stability.
