Human Factors Approach for Powered Transfemoral Prostheses Conceptual Design
Abstract
© 2018 IEEE. Prostheses are designed to replace the missing parts of body, and to increase abilities to perform daily activities. Research suggests that using powered prostheses will help improve the quality of life for the end users. Many powered prostheses have focused on only technical approaches, resulting on a lack of user acceptance. The major purpose of this research project is to provide the design of powered transfemoral prosthesis based upon human factors engineering and ergonomics approach for product design and development. Results from this study indicate that this method can be utilized to aid in the design of a microprocessor-controlled powered transfemoral prosthesis and play a significant role for product development.
