The prostaglandin (PG) spectrum was studied in falciparum malaria patients. There were three types of classified prostanoid group on observation terms during the recovery period. Group 1 (consists of PGF2α and 9α, 11β-PGF2, 6-keto PGF1α) was not related to the symptom during the recovery process. Group 2 (consists of PGD2, PGE1, PGE2) was also not related; however, it kept a high dose level during the recovery period. Group 3 (consists of TXB2 and 8-epi PGF2α) was shown to be changing towards the recovery period. After the parasite disappeared from the plasma (3 days after the symptoms), TXB2 had increased, and 8-epi PGF2α had decreased. The regeneration and recovery of the platelet might reflect the increase in TXB2. And the high oxidative stress might reflect the 8-epi PGF2α changing. © 2002, Elsevier B.V.en_US
