This study does not confirm the hypothesis that "bowel manipulation during intraabdominal surgery may release 5 HT3 to stimulate the vomiting center via the vagus nerve". Thus routine prophylactic use of 5 HT3 receptor antagonist is probably not necessary, especially in Thai patients whose PONV is not distinct both in incidence and intensity of emesis.en_US
