การศึกษารูปแบบการใช้มือในการอ่านอักษรเบรลล์ไทยของนักเรียน พิการทางการเห็นในระดับมัธยมศึกษา

Abstract

การศึกษาครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสำรวจรูปแบบการใช้มือและความเร็วในการอ่านอักษรเบรลล์ไทยของนักเรียนพิการทางการเห็นของโรงเรียนสอนคนตาบอดทั่วประเทศจำนวน 8 แห่ง ที่มีการจัดการเรียนการสอนระดับมัธยมศึกษา กลุ่มตัวอย่างได้มาจากการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบเกาะกลุ่ม (cluster sampling) จากโรงเรียนสอนคนตาบอดจำนวน 4 แห่ง โดยมีผู้เข้าร่วมการวิจัยจำนวน 60 คน แบ่งเป็นเพศชาย 41 คน เพศหญิง 19 คน ในการศึกษาครั้งนี้ ผู้วิจัยให้นักเรียนพิการทางการเห็นอ่านบทความอักษรเบรลล์ในแบบที่ถนัดที่สุด โดยใช้บทความจากการประกวดการอ่านเขียนอักษรเบรลล์ในปี พ.ศ. 2548 จำนวน 5 หน้า อ่าน 1 ครั้ง ในเวลา 5 นาที ผลจากการสำรวจพบว่ามีนักเรียนใช้วิธีการอ่านแบบสองมือมากกว่าแบบมือเดียว โดยนักเรียนที่ใช้วิธีการอ่านแบบสองมือมีจำนวน 44 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 73.3 และอ่านแบบมือเดียวมีจำนวน 16 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 27.7 จากการทดสอบความเร็วในการอ่านอักษรเบรลล์ของนักเรียนที่เข้าร่วมการวิจัยพบว่า ความเร็วเฉลี่ยในการอ่านอักษรเบรลล์ระหว่างนักเรียนพิการทางการเห็นที่ใช้วิธีการอ่านแบบมือเดียวและแบบสองมือนั้นแตกต่างกันอย่างไม่มีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับความเชื่อมั่นร้อยละ95 แต่การอ่านอักษรเบรลล์แบบสองมือ (41.35 คำต่อนาที) โดยเฉลี่ยเร็วกว่าการอ่านอักษรเบรลล์แบบมือเดียว (34.64 คำต่อนาที) และจากการสัมภาษณ์ครูผู้สอนพบว่าส่วนใหญ่สนับสนุนให้นักเรียนอ่านแบบสองมือ เนื่องจากนักเรียนสามารถอ่านได้เร็วและมีบุคลิกท่าทางการอ่านที่ดี ดังนั้นวิธีการอ่านอักษรเบรลล์โดยใช้มือทั้งสองมือจึงน่าจะเป็นวิธีที่ควรสนับสนุนต่อไปในการสอนเด็กพิการทางการเห็นให้อ่านอักษรเบรลล์

This study surveyed the patterns of hand activity and reading speed of Thai Braille among blind secondary students at eight schools for the blind in Thailand. The subjects were randomly selected by cluster sampling method from four schools. There were 60 blind students who participated in the research, including 41 male participants and 19 female participants. In this study, the researcher allowed blind students to read a Braille article with their preferred pattern of hand activity. The article was selected from a Braille reading and writing contest held in 2005, and consisted of 5 Braille pages. Each participant was assigned to read the article once within 5 minutes and their reading speed was timed. The findings showed that more students preferred to use the two-handed reading pattern (44 students or 73.3%) rather than the one-handed reading pattern (16 students or 27.7%). The difference between the average reading speed with the one-handed pattern and the two-handed pattern was not statistically significant (p>0.05). However, the data showed that the participants who read with two hands performed better than those who read with one hand (41.35 words per minute vs. 34.64 words per minute, respectively). In addition, the results from interviewing teachers of blind students showed that many teachers support the use of the two-handed reading pattern because the students can read faster and show good posture during reading. Thus, two-handed reading should be promoted in teaching blind students to read Braille.
