Abstract

1. 1. Spinal shock was measured in amphibians and reptiles and compared with the time to convulsions : strychnine dose response curves of intact and spinal animals. 2. 2. These dose response curves were interpreted in terms of relative amounts of supraspinal inhibition and facilitation of spinal motor activity. 3. 3. The degree of encephalization could then be assigned as due predominantly to supraspinal facilitation, supraspinal inhibition involving inhibition of spinal inhibitory interneurons or supraspinal inhibition of hyperactive spinal reflexes. © 1971.
