Abstract

เดิมนั้นภูมิภาคอุษาคเนย์ วิถีชีวิต ผู้คนบนแผ่นดินได้รับอิทธิพลจากจีน อินเดีย เปอร์เซีย และยุโรปตะวันตก ต่อมาหลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่สอง อุษาคเนย์ได้รับอิทธิพลจากทวีปอเมริกาเป็นหลัก ทั้งวิถีชีวิต ความเป็นอยู่ การศึกษา รวมถึงวัฒนธรรม เสียงใหม่ในอุษาคเนย์ เป็นการศึกษาถึงผลกระทบต่อเสียงดนตรีท้องถิ่น ดนตรีพื้นบ้าน ซึ่งเป็น ดนตรีประจำชาติของชุมชนบนแผ่นดินใหญ่ (ไทย ลาว กัมพูชา พม่า เวียดนาม และมาเลเซีย) ผ่านสภาพการ เปลี่ยนแปลงทางวิถีชีวิต สังคม เศรษฐกิจ และสิ่งแวดล้อม การศึกษารวมไปถึงการปรับตัว เปลี่ยนแปลงของเสียง ดนตรี นักดนตรี วงดนตรี และเครื่องดนตรี และการอยู่รอดของดนตรีเหล่านั้น บทเพลงจำนวนมากสูญหาย เครื่องดนตรีไม่มีใครสืบทอด การตั้งเสียงดนตรีส่วนใหญ่ได้เปลี่ยนไปตามอิทธิพลตะวันตกเสียสิ้น

Music heritage is a precious asset of any nation. However, in an information age Southeast Asian musicians face many challenges as traditional music connects with global culture and music. Just as in the past when the civilizations of China and India influenced Southeast Asian music so now traditional musicians are reinventing themselves for the 21st century; blurring the boundaries of genre, but still reflecting the region. How musicians across Southeast Asia are learning to preserve the art form and also inspire new creations is the focus of New Voices in Southeast Asia. The collection will also pave the way for the opening of Southeast Asia Music Museum, a living museum also dedicated to the same focus.
