Abstract
© 2016 IEEE. Caring for an ever-increasing older population is an immediate challenge prompted by global aging of baby boomers. Elder-assisted systems do not only promote independent lifestyles, but also reduce stress and worries of families and friends. We developed an affordable fall detection application on mobile cloud computing, a major evolution with rising impacts in information technology and enterprises. REDLE features push notifications for fall alerts and maps for tracking and providing locations and phone numbers of nearby hospitals. Implemented on Android, a built-in accelerometer and a global positioning system sensor are employed, achieving a near perfect fall detection rate and an accurate tracker. Users enjoy the smoothness of our interactive interface, and complimented on its ease of use and familiarity.
